Medium frequency smelting furnace is also a kind of steel-making method. This method is based on the induction heat produced by electromagnetic magnetic field and charge induction to melt the charge. Its principle is exactly the same as that of electromagnetic stove, except that crucible is used instead of iron pot. Induction furnace itself is only a kind of melting equipment, which can melt steel or other metal materials, such as ferroalloy. In the past, it was mainly used as melting equipment for pouring steel castings in small foundry (pig iron castings were melted by cupola, steel castings were melted by induction furnace or electric furnace).

The small induction furnace is also used in the experiment conducted by the Research Institute. The vacuum induction furnace with vacuum hood was once one of the production means of high-grade metal products. In the past, the induction furnace was not used for large-scale steel production.

Induction furnace can be divided into high frequency induction furnace and medium frequency induction furnace (referred to as high frequency furnace and medium frequency furnace) according to its current frequency. Medium frequency furnace is the main type in industry.

The harmful gas in steel is an important reason for the steel performance not reaching the standard, and the removal of harmful gas is also an important task in steel-making work. The commonly used means in electric furnace steelmaking are oxygen blowing refining in steel and white slag making in furnace. Argon blowing and vacuum pumping are also used for high demand steel grades, but the intermediate frequency furnace is only a steel melting tool.
