The selection of induction furnace capacity mainly considers whether the productivity of furnace can meet the requirements of molten iron. However, for the same iron water quantity, one large capacity furnace or several smaller capacity furnaces can be selected. This must be correct according to the actual requirements. In the case that a large amount of molten iron is only needed for the production of large castings, it is not suitable to select a single large capacity furnace, but to select multiple furnaces with appropriate capacity under the normal production requirements. In this way, it can improve the flexibility and reliability of the production process, solve the power failure caused by accidents in a single large capacity induction furnace, and reduce the power consumption caused by the too large capacity of smelting a small amount of molten iron.

The capacity of induction furnace is closely related to the technical and economic index of the furnace. Generally speaking, the technical and economic index of the large capacity furnace is high, because the unit energy loss of molten iron decreases with the increase of furnace capacity. The main technical parameters and technical and economic indexes of the medium frequency coreless induction furnace increased from 0.15t to 5T, and the power consumption decreased from 850kwh/t to 660kwh/t

The ratio of rated power to rated capacity (i.e. the power matching the smelting 1kg steel) is a standard to reflect the melting time and power consumption of intermediate frequency induction furnace. When the ratio is large, the melting time is short, the power consumption is small and the melting rate is high; otherwise, the smelting time is long, the power consumption is large and the melting rate is low.

Therefore, under the same capacity of furnace, the matching power of induction furnace should be increased to improve the melting efficiency and reduce its power consumption.
